How to say sorry through a greeting card

Many of us, at some time or other have had reason to say sorry.  Apologizing isn’t easy for any of us, and it takes an open heart – and practice.

It can often be easier to write, than to say.  And it may be an occasion when to begin with at least, you’ll feel it’s sufficient just to say sorry, without adding to it too much.

But going the extra few yards, by adding those extra words will really make a difference to the one you’re apologizing to.

Rather than just saying sorry, why not try adding one of these:

  • “It’s important to me to say sorry for…”

  • “Believe me when I say I’m sorry I left it so long before…!”

  • “It was my fault we didn’t get to do/go to…I’m sorry.”

  • “Sorry I blew it yesterday.  I was …”

  • “I’m so sorry I let you down…”

  • “Please forgive me for…”

  • “I want to apologize for being…”

  • “It would really help if you’d accept my grovelling…”

You can make it sincere, humorous or licky – depending on how much you feel you need to apologize and whether that fits the occasion or your character.

Some people feel you can never apologize enough and might keep reminding you, but at least being sincere with your words can go part way to making the one you’ve let down feel somewhat better about it.

Make sure your gestures as you give the card, and afterwards, match your words.  Otherwise your intentions will probably be misunderstood. It’s always important that your behavior during card giving matches the tone of your greeting.

Saying sorry is just too important a social trait to be taken lightly.  So if you’re giving or sending an “I’m sorry” card then you’ll more than likely be open to add that extra phrase that will describe the particular moment you’re abject about!
