Discover your Flower of the month

Knowing your can add extra meaning to any birthday bouquet.

Many of those who work with flowers have long known of the association of flowers with particular meanings. Some may have passed into folklore. Others may have become known to us from school days. There is a recognised table of Flowers of the Month, though the interpretation of their qualities can be as varied as psychological analysis! There is general consensus that the list below covers each and their particular meanings.

January -  Snowdrop  - Good health
February -  Primrose -  Peace of mind
March  - Daffodil  - Loyalty
April  - Sweet Pea  - Good Fortune
May  - Hawthorne -  Courage
June  - Rose -  Love
July -  Water Lily  - Success
August  - Poppy -  Fame
September -  Morning Glory -  Affection
October  - Cosmos  - Friendship
November  - Chrysanthemum  - Cheerfulness
December  - Holly -  Courage

It’s a simple thing to choose flowers that will have extra special meaning to the recipient. Selecting their birth flower will show that you have given extra special thought to their birthday and it will make it even more meaningful for them.

As well as explaining your careful selection, why not choose a greeting card with a matching flower front.? Many of the Museums and Gallery collections or Art Cards offer wonderful flower gift cards. Typing up and printing/pasting in the flower’s interpretation will remind them of the special connection and serve as an extra memento once the flowers are no longer in bloom.

You might add a personalized greeting inside the card thanking them for their associated quality. For instance, if they are a dear friend and always jolly and their birth month is November, why not thank them for their cheerfulness which means so much to you.

It’s a small thing, but the effort will be especially well received. Your thoughtful gift card will add to the bouquet and turn an often hasty purchase into one of greater consideration.

Once you start this ‘lateral thinking’ about flowers your gift giving will take on a different dimension. Discover your flower of the month now and keep the chart handy for future reference.
