When to send a Sympathy Thank You Card

Sending a after the loss of a family member complies with sympathy thank you card etiquette .  Many of us when losing a loved one feel unable to write and acknowledge letters and cards received.  These cards make is easier for you to reply to the well wishers and to add your own message, as you are able.

Many of us though resort to personal 'thank yous' and words of appreciation given in person, or over the phone.  But there are those of us who accept that a personal message is part of the recovery process and also expected by the those brought up on traditional ways to communication. The importance of thank you cards cannot be over exaggerated but they may not be seen as customary following the receipt of bereavement cards.

It can be overwhelming to respond to cards and letters too soon after the event and people will understand if you are not able to do so quickly.  If they themselves are following recommendations on how to write a sympathy card then they will have added their full name and address as advice on what to write in a sympathy card suggests.

Choose a time to reply when you feel strong enough to deal with your emotions.  You may like a family member to be present with you to support you.

You don’t have to write much, just a few words, and if even this will be too taxing then you could either have a friend to write for you, with you adding your signature – or you could use the services of one of the many Sympathy Card retailers.  They offer a raft of Sympathy thank you card options some you can personalize, others pre-printed.  It could make all the difference to how you feel able to handle this process during your own period of grieving.

You can be assured that the words you choose will be entirely appropriate to the occasion and printed to your personal specifications.

Whatever you choose, complete the card giving circle by ordering, writing and then sending your own sympathy thank you card to those who have been there with you in your hour of need.
